Defending Public Schools

Public schools are the pride of a community. Stoking anger and division in schools over culture war topics does not serve the common good.  We need to work together to fix problems in our schools and invest in our children. Granite staters take great pride in their schools and it shows.  New Hampshire schools are rated very highly in national school rankings.  The pride in public schools bring communities together.  

Over the last 30 years Concord has been underfunding schools to the point that New Hampshire is now the lowest ranked in the entire country for state contributions to education.  The rest of the cost for our excellent schools can only come from property taxes.  There is no other funding option available.  The legislature has ignored multiple supreme court rulings that state funding for schools is inadequate.  Instead, Republicans insist that all schools are failing and the only answer is to give taxpayer dollars to families to home school or send their kids to private schools.  This is wrong.  

If there is a problem, then let’s fix it together.  If your car gets a flat tire you don’t throw it away.  You fix the tire and get back on the road.  We need to get the federal and state governments to pay their fair share of school costs and get our schools back to thriving again.
